“Revolutionary Memorial Wall”, watercolor, silver and gold 100% watercolor paints

This is my entry in the DAR American Heritage exhibit for 2025/2026. The theme was ‘The Road to Independence — Acts of Rebellion and Treason”.

Monday, July 13, 2026, in the Retirement Village where I live, this painting was featured at Carolina Hall with a blind pianist, Will Thames, playing a medley of America 250 Songs.

Online Auction of Jann's Paintings

Watch for an early October announcement to PREVIEW the 35 paintings which will be auctioned online from October 11 – October 17, 2023. All proceeds will go to Mecklenburg Chapter NSDAR to support the restoration of the Kitchen House of the 1774 Hezekiah Alexander House at The Museum of History, Charlotte, NC.

Daughters of the American Revolution – Third Place Award, National

A Third Place National DAR award was won for the 2021 American Heritage Competition, with the painting Finding My American Patriot, watercolor category. Much genealogical research went into finding this patriot. It included studying pre-revolutionary maps, his family, and old typestyles. Because only watercolor could be used, the type was painted with a quill pen filled with watercolor. The painting was exhibited virtually in the 130th Continental Congress.

This painting was awarded Third Place in the Oil Category for the Daughters of the American Revolution — American Heritage Competition. The award will be given at their 128th Continental Congress in Washington, DC In June, 2019 The theme of the competition was ‘Honoring our Patriots with Family Stories’. The painting, ‘Patriot Prisoner John Reaches the Woman at the Stream’ was accompanied by a required one-page essay describing my family’s story and my painting technique.
