For the painting/computer combination workshop, please contact Jann Pollard for a detailed description. For the 5 day workshop, we want to be clear that classroom computers are NOT required for these classes by your organization. It is assumed that students who enroll in the class have access to a computer for home assignments or they elect to bring their own laptops or they stay in the classroom for shared help.
We also offer a Seminar which would be a demonstration only seminar. The student would learn about the simplified ways to use Photoshop as it relates only to the fine artist, developing compositions and color through lecture. There would be no "hands on" except through shared instruction. Students could bring their personal laptops to the seminar, only if desired, but would not be required. |

These unique workshops will, for the first time, make the computer your friend and help you to really see color and design. This course is for the beginner or professional artist that has a computer and means to get an image into the computer (such as a scanner or digital camera) and wants to create more ideas from a given subject, thus producing much stronger compositions in design, color and value.
Our class is different from other Photoshop classes because we are only teaching you the basic tools you will need to create your compositions - so you can get started on your painting more quickly. Once you learn the program, you can do your designs in a half hour or so - something that might normally take you all day to do.
Often these designs are printed out only in black and white - to be used as a guide or sketch., leaving the colored version on the computer. This allows you the freedom to be creative with your painting, yet have all of the information at your fingertips if you would need it. It is not an excuse to not learn how to draw, but rather enhance your creativity and skills with an added medium.
We emphasize only what the fine artist will use out of the software and to KEEP IT SIMPLE! These computer software programs can be daunting. |
Our workshops show you how to learn to use the basic tools of the software to do your computer SKETCH. Then, you proceed to do your painting in your normal way after you have done your concept or plan.
Class emphasis is NOT about the printed end of the computer (giclee prints, etc.), but how you can use the computer as a new creative tool in designing your compositions - using it much like you would use a thumbnail sketch.
You will learn how to bring your photo or photos in to the computer and manipulate them through value, color and design to a point that you would want to start your painting. You can combine elements from several photos to create your new design. It is a way to visually see the ideas you have in your mind. All artists, all painting styles and all mediums can find great value with this new tool.
The computer workshop will be given as demonstrations in the morning (special video projector and computer are provided). You will go home in the afternoon to do your homework on your own computer, while the instructors are available for help by telephone or in the classroom. Some students bring laptops and work right along with the instructor, but they are not required to take the class.
Adobe Photoshop Elements will be used ($99). A ZIP ,CD, digital camera, or other means to get images in to your computer will also be required. If you do not have local access to a computer, you can team up with a partner to work with in the afternoon or stay in the classroom for shared help with the instructors. |
