SUMMER TIME IS PAINTING TIME!

It has been a very long time since my last newsletter, but as many of you know, I have had quite a year fighting leukemia, followed by a stem cell transplant at Duke last November. My sister and I were extremely good cell matches, and I am happy to say I am now in full remission and hope to stay that way. The doctors, nurses, family, friends and technology were all wonderful. My life is slowly returning to 'normal' and I am enjoying every minute of it.

Duke won't allow me to dye my hair (carcogenics) and it is growing back a very silver color, so I have decided to take off my wig and hats and brave the new look. This photo of me was taken the day I won a makeover in a department store from Jones New York and Lancome and I got to keep all of the clothes, shoes and jewelry!! It was a real confidence booster.

I am back to painting (more all the time) now, but at this point, I am not certain about a return to teaching. I must take life a little slower right now as I rebuild my strength. I miss you all and am thinking of setting up something via the internet where I can stay in contact with you.

I am currently updating my gallery page with some images, so please check back to see more new images, including the 7 paintings I did while in an isolation room in the hospital for 30 days. Art does heal!. I was able to go somewhere else for a few hours with my small (hospital tray, size) paintings and music.

The weather has turned glorious and I am looking forward to some 'plein air' painting.

Jann
